The Division of Dairy Industry has moved! As part of legislation passed during the 2011 Legislative Session and later approved by the Governor, the Division of Dairy Industry is now a part of the Division of Food Safety. The changes from the successful passage and enactment of House Bill 7215 took effect on July 1, 2011, when the Division of Dairy Industry became the Bureau of Dairy Industry within the Division of Food Safety. The Division of Food Safety is responsible for assuring the public of a safe, wholesome and properly represented food supply through permitting and inspection of food establishments, inspection of food products, and performance of specialized laboratory analyses on a variety of food products sold or produced in the State. The Division monitors food from farm gate through processing and distribution to the retail point of purchase.
The Division is charged with administration and enforcement of the food and poultry and egg laws, and also provides support in the enforcement of other food safety laws. In addition to regulatory surveillance and enforcement, the Division evaluates consumer complaints related to food. The Division has the responsibility for carrying out its duties or support functions as directed by the following Florida Statutes Chapters: 500, 501, 502, 503, 531, 583, 586, and 601.
The Division of Food Safety is comprised of four bureaus, the Bureau of Food and Meat Inspection, the Bureau of Food Laboratories, the Bureau of Chemical Residue Laboratories, and the Bureau of Dairy Industry . The Division is assisted by an Administrative Support Section, a Compliance Monitoring Section, and a Methods Development/Data Evaluation Section.(test)

COTTAGE FOODS LEGISLATION:

During the 2011 Legislative Session, the Florida Legislature enacted House Bill 7209 allowing individuals to manufacture, sell and store certain types of “cottage food” products in an unlicensed home kitchen.
The Cottage Food law became effective on July 1, 2011. To better assist prospective cottage food operators, the Division of Food Safety (Division) created a draft guidance document which contains more detailed information regarding cottage food requirements.
