Biography
Dr. Thomas J. Holt currently serves as the Florida State Veterinarian and Director, Division of Animal Industry, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. In this position, he oversees the Bureau of Animal Disease Control and the Bureau of Diagnostic Laboratories. He is responsible for enforcing animal health regulations in Florida and protecting the state from animal pests and diseases which have major economic and public health consequences. Such diseases threaten animal and public health, food safety, and food security.
Dr. Holt retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture after serving a number of years as an Associate Director for Emergency Management for Veterinary Services. He is recognized for his experience and expertise in veterinary and zoonotic disease surveillance and control strategies. He has worked throughout the United States and in several foreign countries with responsibility for overseeing animal health emergency preparedness and response programs.
Dr. Holt earned B.S. and DVM degrees from Cornell University.
